Nice to Meet You

I'm Becca Andreassen, Certified Professional Midwife, Minnesota Licensed Traditional Midwife, Lactation Consultant, and all-around nerd when it comes to pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and newborns. I live in North Minneapolis with my family.

My Path to Midwifery

My introduction to birth work came through theater. I heard a play called Birth Witches, by Jennifer Fawcett, all about the ways that early 17th century doctors muscled their way into the birthing room, and the midwives and birth-givers they repressed or killed in the process. That experience inspired me to train as a doula. I was privileged to stand with a number of new parents through their birth journeys, but I knew that I wanted to be more involved.

I studied midwifery at Maternidad la Luz birth center in El Paso, TX, and cared for dozens of clients in both English and Spanish. After moving to the Twin Cities I worked for a while at The Minnesota Birth Center as a birth assistant, and now I’m blessed to serve the community independently as a home birth midwife.

A Practice of Learning

Every birth, and every birthing parent is different. As a midwife that means that I am constantly learning. I find a great teacher in the wisdom of bodies and birthing instinct, and I also work to stay up-to-date with the science of birth. The deepest understanding comes from blending multiple ways of knowing, and always staying open to new experiences and information.
